This report describes the challenges children in Guyana face such as poverty, violence, and lack of support from family and teachers. Civil society organizations (CSOs) continue to advocate for the rights of all children and youth, and often provide refuge, in lieu of state protection, for children facing abuse, even with their very limited resources. But in some instances, CSOs are not well equipped to deal with sexuality and gender issues affecting children.

Research revealed changes in children's gendered attitudes and behavior relating to discrimination, social image, control and dominance, violence, attitudes to girls' education, and acceptance of traditional gender norms, before and after participating in Choices.
This publication offers guidance on how research and programs can systematically identify and challenge gender-based inequalities that pose barriers to development.
The purpose of the strategy is to establish a government-wide approach that identifies, coordinates, integrates, and leverages current efforts and resources. The strategy provides Federal agencies with a set of concrete goals and actions to be implemented and monitored over the course of the next three years with an evaluation of progress midway through this period. At the end of the three-year time frame, the agencies will evaluate the progress made and chart a course forward.
The goal of this policy is to improve the lives of people around the world by advancing equality between females and males, and empowering women and girls to participate fully in and benefit from the development of their societies. It will be addressed through integration of gender equality and female empowerment throughout the Agency’s Program Cycle and related processes: in strategic planning, project design and implementation, and monitoring and evaluation. This integrated approach positions the Agency to address gender gaps and the constraints that hold women back.
