On the road to elimination: celebrating 40 years combating river blindness
June 01, 2014
This press release announces the River Blindness Summit, taking place in Washington, DC. in June 2014 and hosted by the World Bank. The summit celebrates the Bank’s first health project and a long-running public-private partnership which now treats as many as 100 million people a year. One of the main challenges in fighting river blindness has been getting the treatment to remote communities. This is why Sightsavers pioneered the community-based distribution system which uses trained village volunteers to provide treatment at a local level.
