To address the gap in knowledge about the integration of emergency contraceptive pills (ECPs) within community-based family planning (CBFP) programs, Advancing Partners & Communities (APC) convened a meeting in June 2015 on the integration of EC in CBFP programs. The meeting, part of APC's series of technical consultations on CBFP, brought together approximately 30 participants from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and several other CBFP implementing partners, including ChildFund International, Management Sciences for Health, and the Johns Hopkins University Center for Communications Programs.
The purpose of the meeting was to engage USAID, EC experts, and CBFP implementers in a discussion about the use of EC in CBFP programs. Presenters from APC, the International Consortium for Emergency Contraception (ICEC), Population Services International (PSI), and USAID presented on recent experiences on EC provision in CBFP programs, approaches to introducing and maintaining access to EC, and USAID procurement of EC.
