Sonke Gender Justice Network

Sonke Gender Justice Network works with government, civil society, and citizen groups in Africa to prevent domestic and sexual violence, reduce the spread and impact of HIV and AIDS, enhance sexual and reproductive health, and promote gender equality and human rights. Sonke specializes in working with men and boys to address the spread and impact of HIV and to prevent gender-based violence (GBV). The organization offers community education, community mobilization, policy development and advocacy, the use of media for social change, and on building local, regional, and global coalitions and networks.

Community Health Matters Focus Area:

Through a grant awarded under Advancing Partners & Communities (APC), Sonke Gender Justice Network provides technical assistance and training for family planning (FP) programs to strengthen human resources, financial management, and monitoring and evaluation systems. The goal of this support is to promote gender equality and improve access to and use of FP and reproductive health (RH) services. The project works to build organizational capacity and strengthen community education and community mobilization, communications, policy advocacy materials, and models to achieve a better integration of RH and FP into gender, GBV, and HIV-focused work.
