Toolkit

This resource is a project assessment tool for designing and monitoring sustainability of community-based family planning services. This document is designed to assist community-based family planning project planners and implementers to identify key elements to incorporate in a community family planning project to increase the likelihood of family planning services continuing beyond the project’s end.

Reverend Charles Irongo and his wife Edith are happy to tell couples in their congregation how they used contraception to space their four children. The reverend, an Archdeacon at the Kyando Anglican Church of Uganda in southeastern Uganda, sees a clear connection between the church’s role in spiritual matters and health issues, like healthy timing and spacing of children.

Guide

Download the curriculum and trainer's guide used by APC Uganda to help teach adults to communicate with youth from a Christian perspective. Participants practice communication skills and learn factual information linked to religious teachings and appropriate Bible verses. The manual encourages open discussion about sexuality, reproductive health and HIV/AIDS in the context of the Christian community.

While Benin has made some progress in infant and neonatal mortality in recent years, the maternal mortality rate remains high at an estimated 405 deaths per 100,000 live births, almost double the global average. Since 2013, the USAID-funded Advancing Partners & Communities Project (APC) has been working with local NGOs in Benin to implement a community-based package of health care services to address infant, maternal, and neonatal mortality in the country. The package includes family planning interventions, which enable women and families to make informed choices about their sexual and reproductive health. This video shows how APC and Ministry of Health are working to bring healthcare to the doorstep of the communities.
