Report

This report outlines the major activities and achievements of the Guyana HIV/AIDS Reduction and Prevention (GHARP) Project (2004-09). The report includes a preface by Guyana's Minister of Health and chapters that address what GHARP did to ensure reliable strategic information and health information systems, build organizational and institutional capacity, and engage the private sector in the response; provide structured behavior change programs for groups most at risk, disseminate condoms to them, and improve and increase access to voluntary counseling and HIV testing; strengthen and increase access to services that prevent mother-to-child transmission of HIV; and mitigate the impact of HIV/AIDS on adults and children.

Guide

This training guide emphasizes an integrated approach to counseling youth during HIV testing. It features interactive exercises, participant practice sessions, PowerPoint slides, and other training tools. Among the topics covered are an introduction to integrated counseling and testing services, clinical and nonclinical models of counseling and testing, major steps in providing integrated counseling and testing, an overview of sexually transmitted infections and pregnancy prevention methods, social marketing, and community support for integrated youth services.

Manual

This manual contains six workshops and a participant handbook designed for a Muslim audience. Participants practice communication skills and learn factual information linked to religious teachings and appropriate Quran verses. The manual encourages open discussion about sexuality, reproductive health, and HIV/AIDS in the context of the Muslim community. It provides a forum to clarify Muslim values on these topics while providing accurate technical information. It is not designed to promote religion.
