Using Human-Centered Design to Shape Policy

Human-centered design (HCD) is a process that fosters innovation and puts people and communities at the center of problem-solving. To support optimal implementation of community health policies and programs, APC piloted an HCD approach to inform national policy development in Tanzania and Sierra Leone, ensuring that community voices were included in the process.

In Tanzania, APC applied HCD to inform national and district planning for a new national community health worker program.

In Sierra Leone, APC used an HCD approach to convene stakeholders from all levels of the health system to provide input for developing a national community engagement strategy using facility management committees.
