On August 29, 2014, the GBCHA hosted its 7th annual awards ceremony to publicly recognize the unique and vital contributions made towards health and wellness by the business community in Guyana. Our Impact

APC works to advance and support community programs that seek to improve the overall health of communities, especially in relationship to family planning (FP). Through global technical leadership and collaboration, APC’s goal is to increase support for and commitment to community-based family planning in USAID priority countries. APC aims to increase access to quality FP services, expand the contraceptive method mix, and improve upon organizations’ capability to manage USAID funds and implement high quality and innovative community-based health programs.

Community Health Worker Provision of Injectable Contraception: An Implementation Handbook and Job Aids

Check out an implementation handbook developed by FHI 360, which is a step-by-step guide for introducing injectable contraceptives into an existing community-based distribution program. Along with three additional resources, a community health workers job aid booklet, a counseling tool, and a user guide that APC contributed to which are tools that can be adapted for country-specific needs.

View the recording of the webinar put on by APC grantee Christian Connections for International Health (CCIH) that talks about practical tools to inform communities in language they can understand of the variety of choices they have to time and space pregnancies. The webinar explored how you can use these tools in your community-based programs or develop your own for the areas where you work. They also looked at how to develop, test, and translate tools that work for communities, and explored an example of a training curriculum developed for Islamic leaders. These lessons are applicable not just for family planning, but for all community-based programs.

A local organization in Ghana called Hen Mpoano received a grant from APC to address barriers to health service access. Hen Mpoano trained 34 members of local conservation committees, savings and loans groups, and fishery management committees in 10 of these communities on key health messages and practices, such as handwashing, birth spacing, and correct use of insecticide-treated nets. These champions serve as resources for their families and neighbors when community health officers are not there.

APC sub-grantee Motivation has been working with APC grantee World Vision to share their expertise in wheelchair service provision with their community networks. This blog explores the training programmes and how they will help even more disabled people in Kenya, Malawi and Tanzania.
