Entre septembre 2012 et avril 2019, le projet APC financé par l’USAID et mis en oeuvre par JSI Research & Training Institute, Inc. et FHI 360, en partenariat avec le Ministère de la Santé du Bénin, a renforcé le système de santé communautaire dans le pays. APC a travaillé dans 10 zones sanitaires prioritaires de l’USAID, ainsi qu’au niveau national, pour améliorer la prestation des services et les interventions à haut impact (PIHI) dans les communautés et élargir la planification familiale à base communautaire.

In 2014, APC awarded a 21month grant to the Nyanza Reproductive Health Society (NRHS) to implement the Sustainable Health and People’s Environment in Lake Victoria Basin (SHAPELVB) intervention. SHAPELVB built the capacity of local partners to integrate community-based family planning (CBFP) into their ongoing population, health, and environment (PHE)-related activities.

APC grantee, WellShare International, is piloting an important contraception initiative in six sub-counties of Iganga and Bugweri Districts, Uganda. In July 2018, 70 village health team members and 12 health workers were trained to teach clients to self-inject subcutaneously administered depot medroxyprogesterone acetate (DMPA-SC).

Since 2010, community health workers have provided education and services as part of the MOH’s package of basic health services and practices, known as PIHI. Critical to healthy, thriving communities, PIHI services help improve health areas related to malaria; water, sanitation, and hygiene; maternal and child health; nutrition; and family planning.

To align digital solutions that improve family planning service (FP) delivery among community health workers, APC is producing a generic set of resources that FP stakeholders can use as a starting point for developing FP mobile applications. APC is spearheading this effort in collaboration with international and local NGOs, technology firms, donors, and ministries of health.

APC performed a review of Tanzania's National Family Planning Costed Implementation Plan (NFPCIP) to analyze challenges, lessons learned, and inform planning for the NFPCIP II.
