Guyana Trans United’s main goals are to improve the quality of life of trans Guyanese and to ensure that their rights are recognized and upheld in all domains. GTU hosts monthly support group sessions for our members, their families, other loved ones, and conducts outreaches in the ten (10) administrative regions of Guyana. We also work with other lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, and queer (LGBTIQ) communities, human rights and social justice groups on advocacy and awareness raising initiatives.
GTU provides peer education that promotes health seeking behaviors amongst key populations to reduce their vulnerability to STI and HIV, while simultaneously providing care and support information and referral for care and support services through provision of a safe and secure space that is conducive to every person within the key population with the freedom to gender expression and information. This will ultimately contribute to capacity building and empowerment within the local transgender community. Guyana Trans United will also continue to advocate for transgender rights and provide much needed support to the transgender community in the form of peer support and legal, health and social services.
